What Is McCauley Lodge?

McCauley Lodge is a 30-bed licensed care facility for individuals experiencing a mental health issue. The lodge has a very welcoming environment, sustained through our long term and dedicated staff group who support clients through the different phases of their lives, and create not just a home for the people served, but a place where individuals are encouraged to set goals that they would like to achieve, big or small. Residents at McCauley are encouraged to be an active part of the community and live as independently as possible; staff are there only to give support when needed.

Population Served

This residence is for people experiencing severe and persistent mental health issues. Individuals must be 19 years of age or older, and referred through the health authority.

Philosophy

McCauley Lodge provides Psychosocial Rehabilitation (or PSR) services designed to promote personal recovery, successful community integration, and maintenance of a satisfactory quality of life. PSR focuses on helping individuals develop skills, access resources and improve their quality of life by building on their strengths. Residents set their own goals, and choose how to achieve them, with or without support from staff.

The residents vary from individuals needing full-time support, to those who are in a transition period, to those who just need a bit of extra support for a short period of time. At the lodge there are always at least a couple mental health care workers on staff, and daily nursing support is available. The lodge offers a meal plan, help with medication, finance and hygiene (dependent on the individual’s needs and level of independence). Through the lodge we also encourage residents to engage in the community, in physical activities and in psychosocial rehabilitation. McCauley Lodge also operates a Bridging Program, providing daily contact with 20 individuals living in the community to support them in maintaining their independent living situations.

Referrals for this program only go through the Centralized Access to Supported Housing committee through the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health).
